Live: The Robot Heart

There was welcome support from a bunch of regular followers, and, despite the odd distraction from till transactions, the band played wonderfully. A credible acoustic act with bags of talent. There were less than covert reminders of their reasonably-priced EP, displayed artfully in view of the audience. This, however, only served as as source of endearment, and was taken in the right spirit by the growing assembled crowd.

If indeed this was partly a fundraiser, it was also cause for a celebration; a proud moment for a local band. Their music often characterised by sombre lyrics and vocal style, which on first impressions may not always lend itself to this kind of upbeat setting, really shone today. The Robot Heart effortlessly create a personal space to allow the listener pause for reflection. Their performance this evening complimented this ability with an increase in tempo and intensity, as if a weight had been lifted from their collective shoulders. They appeared comfortable and confident playing on home-turf at Resident. An emerging band who deserve to be listened to.
