MIDWEEK MADONNA MURDERING
Private karaoke venue Lucky Voice is offering 50% off room hire on Wednesdays to those brilliant enough to have a Brighton postcode (either home or work). Embarrass yourself in front of your colleagues, friends and housemates and select your favourite songs to massacre from an extensive collection. What a lovely excuse to break up the mid week monotony with a good old sing song!  

GOT ANY QUO?
Brighton Record & CD Fair is back at the Brighton Centre on Sunday 21st, with 130 stalls over two floors. Sift through the crates for that original copy of ‘Trout Mask Replica’ that you can pretend to have liked for years or just complete your Adam Ant 7” collection, all at reasonable prices. It’s a good thing in the age of the download that dealers and collectors still have the choice to buy and sell in the hands-on environment of fairs, so get in there. Open 9.30 til 4.  

NOT JUST BEARDY BOOZE
The Campaign For Real Ale are hosting the Sussex Beer & Cider Festival at Hove Centre, from Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th. Sales of real ale have increased in the last year so this year’s festival features an impressive selection of ciders, perries, country wines and British and foreign bottled beers. The downstairs bar has been designated as the Sussex Bar and will be exclusively stocking beers brewed in our very own home town. It’s always a popular event so be sure to check the website for tickets –sussexbeerfestival.co.uk.  

OCEAN AUCTION
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Peter Stringfellow, get growing that ratty mullet, gather yourself some bimbo eye candy and get bidding for the Ocean Rooms. The recently troubled venue is being auctioned off on Friday 5th, and a planned £100m redevelopment of the surrounding area, taking in the Uni annexe, NCP car park and all round there, could mean you end up with some prime real estate. It probably won’t be cheap though, so don’t go in and accidentally scratch your nose or you might be lumbered with a bit of a cashflow crisis.  

KIDS FROM FAME
Now in its 86th year, Springboard – Brighton and Hove’s Youth Performing Arts Festival, hits town this month. With music, drama and dance spread across Brighton & Hove High School, Roedean School and the Old Market, it’s a good chance to encourage our talented youngsters with some applause and recognition. From Sunday 14th - 21st, with dance highlights at the Dome in April, type theoldmarket.co.uk into your internet machine to find out more.  

KEEP IT QUIRKY
Here at SOURCE we quite like the idea of sticking it to The Man. While we obviously have to have big corporate shops in Brighton to attract outsider shopper drones, it’s really important for the city to retain its character and reputation for quirky and creative outlets too. If this is something the floats your boat too, there’s a new website keepbrightonunique.org, which will help you direct your energies towards local bacon rolls rather than Big Macs.

If, like us, you could never watch Phil Daniels on EastEnders without picturing him totalling Sting’s scooter, shagging Leslie Ash and gobbling pills like TicTacs, then the news that he’s written a book called Class Actor will be mod music to your ears. But better still, you can bother him in person when he signs copies at Waterstones on Sunday 6th at 2pm. Don’t try and drag him down ‘that’ alley though, ladies.
